Hello! My name is Brian Hsu (徐嘉駿). I am a third-year Ph.D. candidate in Astronomy and Astrophysics at Steward Observatory, the University of Arizona. I graduated cum laude with a B.A. in Astrophysics and Physics from Harvard University in 2023, where I worked in the Berger Cosmic Transients Lab on the optical study of Type I superluminous supernovae, UV analysis of their host galaxies, and applying machine learning techniques in preparation for the Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time.
Currently, I am a member of the Steward Observatory Novel Astrophysical Transient Alliance (SONATA). I work with Prof. Nathan Smith and many other transient astronomers at Steward Observatory on hydrogen-rich core-collapse supernovae and their massive-star progenitors, combining observational and numerical techniques.
I am a Queens, New York native, but spent most of my childhood in Taiwan. In my spare time, I like to play volleyball, do yoga, and recently I’ve been trying to learn how to crochet.
